Mrs. Kamm never did anything positive when it came to race relations. Come springtime she would host her annual "Darktown Struttter's Ball." All the queens were expected to come in blackface including the token niggers. The thrill of the evening was when Mrs. Kamm would walk out stage center, dressed as Little Liza Jane complete with her hair done up in rags, and sing "Shortin' Bread." For an added effect everyone present was expected to join in on the chorus.
